Comic #43: Weapon XII

Hey guys. I know it's been AWHILE since the last comic. Been kinda busy and couldn't really think of any comic ideas. UNTIL, I saw Wolverine, which is a terrible terrible movie by the way. Okay, it wasn't THAT bad but the potential was just destroyed. Terrible. Anyways. Enjoy. Hopefully, the next comic will be posted before next year. Just kidding. Maybe.

Hey gang. Sorry for the extreme delay for this comic. Been really busy. I'll try to have the next one up earlier. Heh. And if you didn't know, our domain fftcomics.com isn't working at the moment since we have yet to transfer it over. Still waiting on some changes in regards to our site so sorry for the mess and not-so-easy navigation. Without further ado, let's see what our group has been up to.

Peace!

Previous StarCraft 2 / L4D comic:
http://starfeeder.gameriot.com/blogs/Food-For-Thought-Comics/Comic-42-Left-4-Dead-Pt2

Comic #41: Left 4 Dead

Sorry about the late update. Another quarter of school started and I've been swamped with stuff to do. This was originally going to be a longer comic but due to time and creative constraints, I decided to split it up. That way I don't have to rush the story. Steven and I played a bunch of L4D over break so naturally, we had to bring a L4D-themed comic. Enjoy!

Stay tuned for what happens next:

Part II here < Read it now!

Comic #40: Happy Feet

This was my entry for the first Blizzard "Vespene Laughs" comic contest. The one where two of three winners were examples they had already used for the contest. Yeah.. Kind of bummed it didn't place but oh well. However, it seems one of our other comics  place but someone else had submitted it so it was disqualified. If you guys think we should submit a comic for the contest, tell us next time, rather than doing it yourselves. Lol. Without further ado, Happy feet!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!

FFT Review: Shmoop.com

Here at Food for Thought Comics, we care about feeding the brain with good wholesome material.  Recently, I stumbled across Shmoop which has a similar mantra: "Feed your Head."

I checked it out, and found that it was an entertaining, useful resource. Â When I first visited the website, I thought it was similar to sparknotes or cliffnotes in its approach, but after spending some time on it, I realized that it has some quality content. Here's an excerpt from Shmoop's analysis of George Orwell's ?

"A bald Natalie Portman, a sunglasses-sporting Keanu Reeves, and a pale Christian Bale. Believe it or not, even if you’ve never read 1984, these superstars have burned its premise and plot onto your Shmoopster brain. Oh yes indeedy, you know 1984 like the back of your hand, and more than likely it hits home for you. Still not quite sure what we’re talking about? V for Vendetta, The Matrix, Equilibrium – we’ve been imagining what life would be like if it were ruled by an oppressive, tyrannical government for years, and probably will continue to imagine it for a long time to come. But the question on our minds is, why ?Â

"Why is this plot so continually compelling to us, to authors, to moviemakers, and to artists? Isn’t America the land of the free, the home of the brave? The place with spacious skies, amber waves of grain, opportunity at every corner, where dreams come true? So what are we so worried about – what’s with all of the anxiety?Â

"Well, if you’ve read our rad discussion on “Making the Constitution” in Shmoop History, you’ll know that a constitution is a tricky thing to make, a good government is a hard thing to pin down, and the protection of civil liberties and basic rights (like free speech), is not always clear cut.Â

"Take, for example, the syndicated talk show host, Michael Savage, who, on July 21st, 2008, exclaimed to eight million listeners, “I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is” (source). Savage, who holds two masters degrees in the medical field and a PhD in nutritional ethnomedicine, argued that more and more children are being misdiagnosed with autism as a way of increasing funding for schools, doctors, and pharmaceutical companies. As you can imagine, Savage’s words sparked heated debate and outrage from people all over the world, especially from those who battle or know someone who battles this neurological disorder. Many demanded that he be fired, that he apologize, or that he be punished. Radio stations across the country dropped his show. But here’s where it gets muddy. The First Amendment in the Bill of Rights grants all U.S. citizens the right to free speech:Â

"'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.' Â

"Just as Savage’s listeners can petition against him, he has the right to say whatever he chooses. Sure, he has a responsibility as a talk show host to be balanced and thoughtful in his remarks, but, ultimately, he can exercise free speech. Tricky stuff, no? But can you imagine how easy it would be for us to ban Savage from the radio or to prevent him from ever speaking publicly again?Â

"These are difficult questions that, in a society that values civil liberties, will arise over and over again. 1984 shows us what happens when we stop struggling with these questions and allow a small group of people in power to make all of the judgment calls." Click here for original.

This excerpt is a testament to the quality of material found on this website. Â It looks like all of the information is written by PhD. and Masters students from the top colleges around the U.S. and all of the information is both funny and informative. Â Also, the site has topics on American History and poetry, and it looks like much more will be added in the future.

I thought this would be of help to those of you who study hard but, can't seem to grasp the importance of the material or gain the grades desired.

Keep your brain working.

-Steven

P.S. Theres a section for each book on the site that tells you how much sex is in it. Â Pretty cool.

HP tx2500z Tablet PC Review

Sorry about the delay with a new comic. It's the holidays and I've had lots of stuff. But, I got a new laptop, so I decided to post up a review. Just cause.

Overall, I'm quite happy with my tablet pc. It's built well, has solid features, few minor flaws, and most importantly, has a satisfactory tablet screen I can work with. If you're looking for a tablet pc that's good with everything from notetaking to videos to games to websurfing, this is, in my opinion, the best bang for the buck.

And here's something I drew today trying to get used to the laptop. Took me like 1-1.5 hours. Yay.

Friday's Flash to the Past: Comic #12: It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp

Pimpin ain't easy.. It's hard being a pimp. I know firsthand.

Steven was my first worker. He knew how to work the streets. Brought in some good money. And that money went towards this site. Holla! I think the High Templar looks good as a pimp. He's straight bangin. I have no idea what female Protoss look like. I was thinking of making the PLAYA a Terran but I'm not sure about the diplomatic status between the Protoss and Terran so I tough'd it out and stuck with the zealot. Them females are looking kind of attractive no? Nah, I'm kidding. Yuck. Where's that medic poster at?

And it was very awkward drawing the sex scene. A Protoss. Sex. Scene. Do they even do it that way? Or is it like a telepathic form of romance. When two become one. Maybe that's what the Archon is. Two individual Protoss doing it. Enough of that. And NO he's not on the boat, then kissing, then sex then poof on the boat then poof in the restaurant then sex. Those are his hallucinations. It's simultaneous. Sheesh. - ks, artist

12/12/08

Hope you enjoy this one.
Comic #39: Harry Potter meets SC

Hey ya'll! This is my first post ever! Woohoo! Sorry about the delay. I had a final today (and all this week) so I couldn't get the comic up till today. Forgive me. Without further ado, here it is...

So there was a Harry Potter marathon on Family Channel this weekend (not that I was watching it or anything... ahem) and so this comic came forth unto this world. I hope you guys recognize the references...In case you have no idea who Harry Potter is, then I'm sorry. Just know it involves robots and a bunch of naked girls.

Previous Comic: A Tall Tale Next Comic: It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp

Friday's Flash to the Past - Comic #15: A Tall Tale

What would Boxer do?
Never mess with a big man with a big axe. Especially if you're on some skinny legs. No, that's not Thor in some country clothes. That's Paul Bunyan. The greatest lumberjack that ever lived. Abraham Lincoln's log cabin? His handiwork. Those big ass Sequoia trees? His doing. He mashed together a bunch of trees. No kidding. Mount Rushmore? His axe sculpted it beautifully. The Colossus is an annoying unit to draw. It's very complicated and detailed. Don't make me do it again.

Please.

And that lumberjack was supposed to be just that.. a lumberjack. BUT, Steven was in such a tall tale mood, we turned the lumberjack into Paul Bunyan. He was read to a lot as a child, apparently.

-ks

12.5.08 FFP with FFT: A Tall Tale

So every Friday, we will be having FFP with FFT: Friday's Flash to the Past with Food For Thought Comics. A Tall Tale was an early idea that we waited on a bit before releasing because of its quirkiness. We wanted to release at least a dozen comics that were more specific to Starcraft 2 before unveiling the strange side of our imaginations.

Nevertheless, A Tall Tale is a comic that will live on for ages like the ageless Paul Bunyan and his faithful blue ox. Hope you enjoy!

-Steven

Previous Comic: Food For Thought                                                                                                       Next Comic: HP meets SC

HAPPY GOBBLE GOBBLE DAY. This is where "food for thought" originated from.. if you don't get the joke.. then I'm sorry.

-ks

12/1/08

We are excited to announce that FFT Comics will be teaming up with Starfeeder in order to get our comics out to more Starcraft Fans. We think this partnership will be beneficial to the Starcraft 2 community as a whole.
