Is it a Diablo MMO?

Rob Pardo said no, since Diablo III format is already great as it is.

Is it Warcraft IV?

Less likely, because the same team that works on Warcraft RTS is working on Starcraft II right now!

Remember? When Warcraft III development was finished, they immediately started working on Starcraft II, unknown to many.

Is it a Starcraft MMO revamping Starcraft Ghost?

This is where I put my money on!

Why?

World of Warcraft MMO franchise needs to have something new and different for its users, other than the Wrath of the Lich King Expansion. Sooner of later people will get tired of WOW and try other non-Blizzard MMOs.

In order to keep up with the game eco-system, they need a new MMO that builds upon the strong brand of games, and possibly take advantage of the lore and expand upon it.

Warcraft III Alpha was a First Person Game

Remember when Warcraft III Alpha version used to be First Person? Familiar? Later they "shelved" this first person approach to Warcraft III and brought back the top-view RTS we all love.

What happened to the First Person version of Warcraft III? It evolved. It did not go to waste. Today we know this First Person Warcraft as "World of Warcraft".

The Role of Activision

Now going forward a bit. Starcraft Ghost was looking good for release to the XBox. But development was taking too long, and XBox 360 was released -- which is ahead of Starcraft Ghost! I guess Blizzard needs more experience for console gaming development.

They then bought Activision. And guess what is Activision doing right now? My big guess is that they are working on this "Unknown Project".

See?

Activision ~= "Unknown Project"

Kinda far, knowing that Blizzard will always base their games on known brands Starcraft, Diablo, and Warcraft.

But who knows? Maybe they will resurrect one their shelved games, and has 100x the win!

If WC3 FPS become an MMORPG.  Starcraft Ghost may become an MMORPG and hopefully be better than WOW.

I really do hope so! I've seen almost all the Starcraft Ghost gameplay trailers and movie trailers, and they have reasonable progress already.

No wonder Blizz did not absolutely cancel this project.

Blizzard probably simply took it out from the eyes of Internet presses,
and secretly have continued developing Starcraft Ghost,
and this time, for the PC, not the fast-paced consoles.

I bet World of Starcraft will be announced in 2 years after the SC2 expansion is either released or about to be released.

Came across this site as I was googling to see what people are saying about this project. Can tell you it's not Activision though, my uncle's a senior developer there, and even they don't know what the project is.

This is my recent idea:
What if the Unknown Project is Not a Game?
Then they are probably now working on the Warcraft CG Motion Picture
which was announced years earlier.

highly doubt it, on their Employment page they are still looking for a Senior Game Designer along with a couple Software Engineers for it. Also they sold the film rights to Legendary Pictures(makers of Batman Begins) back in 2006, so Blizzard themselves won't be doing the hiring for the movie.

Good point. Then it will point to Starcraft Ghost, OR a new game (why the need for Game Designer).

Hnestly i think Blizzard is out of ideas, all their games are relatively the same. Warcraft and Starcraft are extremely similar to each other gameplay-wise, all you really have to do is swap the factions and you've got the same game. Starcraft 2 is pretty much the same game, they just upped the graphics, threw in a few new units, and there you go. WOW has the same principles as D2, they simply just expanded on it. WoTLK isn't anything wonderful either, it's just an average expansion. And D3 looks to be exactly like D2, they simply just made it more WOWish.

Are they suddenly going to throw in something completely out of the blue that we haven't seen something similar to before? Highely doubtful. They're other games have been unbelieveably successful, so they won't leave that style any time soon. They claim it's a next gen-MMO, meaning it will become the way all MMO's will become. Also highely doubt that, if it truely is the best MMO to date, there wouldn't be a whole lot of a reason to play WOW. Even though they would still be their customers, Blizz certainly doesn't want WOW to fall.

So at this time with the limited information we have, here's what I figure. If it truely is a next gen MMO, it would hurt WOW drastically. They don't want this, rather theyd want to kepp their players in WOW for certain reasons, have those WOW players play their new game, and attract new players who didn't play WOW to their new MMO. Since we can be pretty damn sure they won't be pulling an ace from their sleeve, this leads to only one logical possibility at this time.

And that is World of Starcraft.

And if you look at it, it makes sence. For a next gen MMO they certainly aren't hiring many people. They have a few artists being hired, a senior developer, and 3 or 4 software engineers. Not much for a 'next-gen mmo'. IF it is World of Starcraft(or whatever they decide to name it, i hope to god it's now WOS though), they would fill in part of the team from the Starcraft and WOW teams.

Long post I know, but it should help people get a better idea of what's going on.

Shouldn't be long till we know what it really is though.

Then we both agree: Starcraft MMO, with foundations on Starcraft Ghost.

It's possible, and it should be a big blast of a new game because it is a DOS classic that will rise in the PC era...

There has still been so much discussion about Starcraft ghost for all these years that I don't really think they are continuing the project

... or they could be continuing this project in secret. Maybe one day we'll get a surprise announcement like what we saw for Starcraft II :D
