My fanboyism is itching bad right now, this is potentially the epic. I still put $5 on that SC2 Beta will be announced during or immediately after BlizzCon - who's game?
sAviOr : Idra FTW!

I'll take that $5 bet! As much as I'd love to think that beta will be announced during or shortly after BlizzCON I think that it's further away than any of us want to believe. I would be very happy to be wrong though. Although I'm sure we'll hear mention of the Beta at BlizzCON and they may even say "we're shooting for this fall" like they were "shooting for summer" I doubt that we'll get a solid day yet...

The bet is on, and we can only hope that I win
I have speculated and debated wisely over this issue for many months, but in the end this just comes down to faith/a fool's hope. Still, it worked for Gandalf - SC2 Beta FTW!

Haha yeah what's wrong with this picture? I really want to lose this bet, even though I'm fairly certain I won't lol. Definitely SC2 Beta FWT! I will gladly eat my words if I'm wrong

Some things that are to good to be true do happen, like instant noodles that taste better than the proper ones. Let's hope this weekend is just like that ;P

So, I owe you $5..... Can I give it to you in chickens?

Haha yeah that sounds good. They'll be a good addition to my current chicken farm population!
I'm sad that I won this bet but at the same time not suprised to be honest. From what I've seen of people talking to devs at BlizzCon we probably won't be seeing beta till Novemberish?

Chickens are an unbeatable currency - they make pillows and taste like everything. Just give me the coordinates of your farm and I'll have them airlifted/bombed on the site, no sweat
Yes, I'm sad I lost that bet, but I guess there's was a lot of faith rather than credible facts involved on my part. It's strange by Blizzard to keep the game in development for this long, as that process costs them millions of dollars every month, money they could be earning back quicker if they released it sooner. That makes me afraid the beta-period will not be sufficiently long, which is worrying because that is where the good raw material that is Starcraft 2 alpha will become the next generation eSport - or not. Let's hope for Octoberish but count on pre-Christmas holiday.... Meh.

Yeah I'm suprised that the Beta still hasn't been released. That's pretty shocking especially considering their past Beta release schedules. I read an article once that someone put together about Blizzard's Beta history and the timing of when Beta starts after they have started open enrollment. The article showed that the smallest gap between sign up and Beta start was 3 weeks and the longest was 6 weeks.
We are now months beyond the 6 week mark past sign-ups which is discouraging. I think that's part of the angst that seems to be so common throughout the waiting in the StarCraft community. Everyone was expecting Beta to start a month and a half after the sign-ups started and Blizzard didn't confirm or deny this until they said that Beta would be out this summer. Then they didn't confirm or deny if that was still possible until they announced the game being pushed back until 2010. I think it would go a long way for them to be more direct with their fan base and not so silent for such long periods of time.

Skyhigh and Zero instead of Flash and Iris? Good players, poor substitutes. If Flash and Iris really can't go they should send July, he actually wanted to be there.

Word, it's surprising and slightly disappointing. There might be reasons we do not know about, like various commitments in Korea that they feel compelled to commit to, but still - it's odd. However, any tournament where sAviOr faces NaDa is a good one

Well Flash may very well have a Masters match on Sunday (winner of KT v sparkyz will face oz) , so I could see him not going because of that. Iris has MSL Semis on Thursday so same there. I can't see why July couldn't go, though, except for possibly politics.

Politics schmolitics - I reckon that the aggressive Blizzard-takeover of the GomTV-broadcasts might have angered the old money within KeSPA, and so a quite power struggling might be going on behind the scenes. Or July is just to busy chilling with hamburgers and groupies in downtown Pusan, who knows. I hope BlizzCon will still provide epic SC1 combat, and I'm sure it will

Rooting for Zero out of everyone, though it wouldn't hurt to see a foreigner win. Still, this isn't exactly a gathering or display of the highest level players... and the random selection is mreh. Feels a bit gimmicky of a show - I'm sure we'll have to suffer some American announcers trying to over-exaggerate (even compared to normal announcing) the mechanics of the game while having no real grasp on the real mechanics going on - the last time I heard Blizzard announcers covering high lvl SC1 games they really couldn't even tell who was going to come out on top of really obvious battles. But it's probably for the best - though the level of commentary Blizzard offers (in the battle reports, as well) may seem super obvious and thus insulting to those who play or follow the game closely enough to understand the dynamics, they're really trying to bring people into that mindset... leaving us with an even bigger and more competitive game, ideally. So we'll have to put up with it while they work their magic. Is this their perception / way of running eSports, or just a temporary marketing ploy? Only time will tell whether Blizzard really knows their stuff and can really play a respectable lead for the eSports scenes outside of Korea.
So I'm not truly complaining - this will be the closest I get (so far) to being in the crowd watching some pros duke it out on stage! Go Zero!

I myself thought Blizzard should have special ordered Bisu and Jaedong to appear and face each other off! Winner plays Flash kinda match
But hmm... something tells me some Kespa drama must be to blame...

Indeed, there's an air of measuring *****es between Blizzard and KeSPA right now, it strikes me - following the massive sponsorship provided by Blizzard to GomTV and everything. Time will tell, but BlizzCon seems mysteriously vacant of the more obvious crowd pleasers. Hmmm....

Agreed, was thinking this may be a kespa related choice

Why didn't Blizzard invite any Protoss players?

If SC2 doesn't satisfy S Korean players and leagues, guess what? SC2 will die much faster than SC1.
Western players have small attention spans and prefer newer games rather than play older classics. Western players also cannot match S Korean skillz. RTS is a genre that fewer Western players are willing to play becuz it takes planning. But, Western players mainly have attention span for FPS.
So, if Blizzard leaves out S Korea players and leagues, SC2 will fail.
In fact, without LAN, how can SC2 possibly allow S Korea league matches to occur? Bnet is too slow, laggy and unreliable. Game over!
Dumb Westerners only care about FPS and dum WOW.
