Blizzard is giving 50 million won toward the TG Sambo - Intel Classic Season 3 Starcraft league, and the winner will also be awarded a spot in this years BlizzCon event.
On June 10th, the WoW tournament sponsored by Microsoft and its new product the Sidewinder, will be having a league, also sponsored by Blizzard with 50 million won.
There’s currently a Warcraft 3 event going on at GomTV that you might know about already, it’s being commentated by former Warcraft 3 stars ToD and Rotterdam. Blizzard is sponsoring 10 million won toward this event.

Wow! That's actually pretty big.
I hope this means that they'll spend some of that 50 Million Won on showing us Premium users some love.
edit - It is understandable, however, that Blizzard would be very grateful for, and supportive of, the Korean SC scene. Particularly towards any event organizer/broadcaster that generates revenue from foreign demographics also.

Premium? They need to do away with premium altogether, and Blizzard needs to sponsor GOMtv much, much more after SC2 comes out. They're going to need beefier servers and fatter bandwidth when that happens, and I don't wanna pay for it >.>
The very fact that Blizzard is sponsoring GOM is fantastic, though. It'd be even better if Blizzard absorbed GOM. It'd be one of the best courses of action, as GOM already has accomplished penetration in both Korean and Foreign bases. They'd keep the same staff and all, probably upgrade the studio, etc. It'd be like GOMtv but with decent funding (and no premium :P).

They dont' need to do away with premium, but they need to change the way it works now. I'd gladly pay $5-15 for the HQ games + some nice features, but $50 for a pathetic amount of features is absurd.

Yeah, I think right now GomTV needs a new Patch. And who better to provide patches than Blizzard? :P

This is amazing news. It shows Blizzard isnt interested in 'taking over' the E-Sports scene, rather, they want to support the company they see best fit to bring Starcraft to much of the world, and that is easily GOM.
No other SC company has the dedication GOM does to making SC popular around the world. Hell, look at all the fan sites, they all mostly talk about GOM.
I cant wait to see what they do in the future, this is something to be very excited about

Congrats to GOM.
They do so much for the international community, just a shame the only international tourney VOD's they host are premium only.

There is some sense to offering a Premium service in the way that Gom does, but they use an outdated revenue model that alienate viewers and lose them money. Throw some relevant ads in there that make sense to international or Western consumers (hence attracting lucrative sponsorship deals) and decrease the fee or better take it off completely. We wouldn't mind watching clips of the new Mountain Dew flavour in between game 2 and 3 of Bisu vs Jaedong as long as we got to do it in high res, would we? That's already the case in any sport that is being broadcasted on proper TV, and the Gom livestream is packed to the brim with Korean commercials, which is sometimes interesting but does not make me go out and buy ready-made kimchi just because.
Gom needs to up their game and get on the Web 2.0-bandwagon, and thereby make a loooot of more money whilst keeping viewers happy. Still, they are clearly doing something right, says more than $100 million won. GG to that!
