The Razer Naga MMO eSports Gaming Mouse

The RAZER Naga MMO gaming mouse

First off all I want to say thanks again to Razer for sending me this, it is their expansion into the competitive MMO gaming scene. The main feature that makes this an MMO mouse of course is the 12 custom buttons on the left hand side.

The box opening (note this is a special bundled box, if you purchase the Naga mouse by itself you won't get the Naga MegaSoma mouse pad that came with this)

Tech Specs:
  • 5600dpi Razer Precision 3.5G Laser Sensor
  • 1000Hz Ultrapolling™ / 1ms response time
  • 200 inches per second max tracking speed
  • Zero-acoustic Ultraslick™ Teflon feet
  • 17 MMO-optimized buttons (including 12 button thumb grid)
  • Optional MMO-specific software AddOns
  • Unlimited character profiles with AddOns
  • Approximate size:  116L x 69W x 41.6H (in mm)

First impressions

My first impression of the Naga is that it's a medium sized mouse, as far as size goes I would put the Logetich G9 and Microsoft Sidewinder in the large catagory so you guys can imagine the size.

Next I like the idea of lots of quick keys if you're playing an MMO with the need to access tons of skills, however I felt the furthest back buttons (10,11 and 12) would be the most unused.

Tested in GuildWars, WoW, Aion, Modern Warfare and StarCraft

During my little time in WoW(friends account since I don't play anymore) I found myself using the keys for simple things like opening up bag slots or other non-essential macros. I had a similar experience in Aion, I like this mouse a lot for those games.

In GuildWars which I feel is a much more competitive MMO then WoW I had a different experience, I only used the 1,2,3 and 5 keys on the grid leaving the rest unbined. In GW mouse control imho is more important then in WoW so I rarely wanted to put added side motion on the mouse if I was in the heat of battle where I tend to hold the mouse a bit tighter.

If you play GuildWars PvP you will love this mouse, 1,2,3 I used for "interupt" skills, which are abilities you use to distrupt another players while they are about to cast a spell or use an attack ability. And I used Q,E,R,F,C,1,2 for my other skills.

With Modern Warfare and Starcraft obviously I never used the side keys, but the precision on the mouse was fantastic and makes this a great mouse of FPS play. One great feature of this mouse if you're an FPS player also is that it's a finger-tip mouse as well as knuckle mouse (when you use the part of your fingers that contain the Proximal Phalanges). To be more descriptive: if you divide your finger into 3 sections, a knuckle mouse user would use the 3rd section just above the knuckle to click the mouse. The Naga like a lot of Razer mice imo 100% supports both finger play styles.

Finger Bones
Hey it's Halloween!

With Starcraft I tend to like heavier weighted mice and I'll be sticking with my G9x for RTS play.

Over all if you are an RTS / FPS player you won't be disapointed by this mouse, but there are probably others in the Razer line-up that would suit our play style better. If you play WoW however I feel that this would be a great addition to your gear, the ability to bring up the multitude of features/bags/windows in WoW saves you tons of time so you can continue farming, griefting, raiding or PvPing.

Other features

The nice matte no slick top, shiney sides and blue lights makes this a pretty mouse as well as a good grip mouse.

The padding on the bottom of the mouse goes all the way around and isn't like your standard oval pads, so imo the Naga's pads will last a very long time and you will keep the same smooth flowing feel a thousand hours later.

The braided cord is also another plus if you are a competitive gamer and hate getting your cords tangled or stuck on the desk.

Overall this is a great mouse for MMO players and at $79.99 not a back breaking price for a high-end mouse.

Does look like a good mouse, but I agree that for FPS/RTS gamers like us, something like the Mamba (http://www.razerzone.com/buy-razer/buy-gaming-mouse/razer-mamba) would be better. Althought it's a bit more pricey. I like the fact that it's wireless when you want and wired when you need it. Maybe they will send you one of those to review ;\

Anyways nice review! and also, I like you even more now that I see you don't have an iPhone like everyone else in this world ;\ Go G1!

I was on the 4th best team during the Alpha test: Club G and we merged with Negative Zero, the best North American Clan, right before game launch...

Of course like most other top teams, we ended up leaving the game after they introduce skill captures and other features that basically killed competitive gaming in GW. They have learned from their mistakes however and I'm positive that Guild Wars 2 will be the top competitive MMO in the future.
