Hey starcraft fans,
We hate it to be the “bad news deliverer” but someone have to say it. We just received disappointing news from an trusted source after some researches after the BlizzCon 09 and the sad truth is:
As we all know ,Blizzard came up with the idea to make this “great” social network (first guessed are twitter or facebook) and one of the problems is money. This service definitely requires some big buck to be invested and to “solve” this problem Blizzard came up with the brilliant idea – to make monthly “fees” like in World of Warcraft. So you just have to pay a few dollars to get access to Battle.net 2.0. By the way: they’re also planning the same for Diablo 3 but we already knew this months ago as Blizzard said this on the conference in 2008. That’s not a big surprise because people knew it already in 2008 but always thought that it’ll be avoided by other incomes. That’s why Blizzard didn’t announced it on BlizzCon.
The other argument is that Blizzard can 100% avoid piracy with this monthly costs.Diablo III’s director Jay Wilson recently told an audience at BlizzCon that Blizzard and Activision are looking to make some money with the Battle.Net service.
Jay Wilson:
We are looking to monetize Battle.Net so that we get to keep making these games and updating features. We kind of have to.
There aren’t any further information about the costs yet but it is supposed to be between 5 and 8 $. Less than World of Warcraft. This was also an answer to the 130.000 petition signatures. We will keep you posted.

Update: Rumor = total BS
Blizzard has said Bnet 2.0 will NOT cost you a monthly fee.
About the Jay Wilson quote:
Jay Wilson:
We are looking to monetize Battle.Net so that we get to keep making these games and updating features. We kind of have to.
Blizzard signed a deal with Massively, a huge in game ad marketing/distribution company run by Microsoft last Dec. Banner ads similar to those in the original Battle.net could be what Jay Wilson was talking about when he used the word monetize. Which is also the term used when you use space on your website to sell ads.

Edit: I did just notice that the quote was from a Diablo 3 developer. Not sure if the Battle.Net 2.0 services will cost anything for Diablo 3 or not but it's been stated on multiple occassions that Blizzard will not charge for Battle.Net 2.0 access for SC2.

Blizzard; Is this true?
Is B.net 2.0 free of charge? And the only charges is for extra features that is not really necassary... or is that site telling the truth?
As mentioned before, players will be able to use Battle.net for free
when they purchase the full version of StarCraft II. There have been no
changes to this. - Karune
More of that careful wording. Can you please clarify? If Blizz doesn't
think you "purchased the full version of StarCraft II" (however you
determine that - how you determine it is another question you can
consider asked), what happens? Can you still play single player?
Obviously you can't play b.net for free, but can you play it with a
monthly or one-time fee? Or are you entirely locked out until Blizz
thinks you really did purchase SC2?
Also, "full version" just means
"what you buy after release, either as a retail DVD or any authorized
online download locations" (i.e. "not alpha, beta, or demo"), right? Or
is there some more complex thing I'm missing?
lol- here is one simple scenario:
When you buy StarCraft II from
the store, you will be able to play on Battle.net for free. This is not
a temporary trial of Battle.net.
Not purchasing the full version
would include any illegal method of attaining software. In that case,
you would not be able to get on Battle.net. - Karune

But if the wowtards somehow mess this up, i'm forming a lynch mob.
again
and again
and again
That playing Bnet 2.0 will be free.
It can go something like this:
Press Release (a few months after SC2 is release):
Due to the unprecidented economic downturn, we had to reevaluate our business plans. The fact is the free gaming model is not viable. So, we have been forced to make some hard decisions. We have thought long and hard and felt that the best way to deliver the best quality gamer experience in the long run is to charge a nominal maintenance fee for a bnet 2.0 account. By doing so, we can continue to provide ongoing new and exciting content. Our company prides ourselves in putting out the highest quality gaming experience without compromise. The only way to deliver quality experience without compromise over time is to have gamers contribute a small fee, much like other quality popular growing online services like X-box Live. On an exciting note, we feel that gamers will be very surprised and enjoy the new exciting gaming and social networking aspects in bnet 2.0. Blah ... blah ... blah ... typical corporate propaganda bullpoopoo.
Then some of you chumps will say:
Well, it's true. X-box Live does cost money, why shouldn't Blizzard, the best game company in the world, charge money. I paid $500+ on Guitar Hero games and I didn't nearly have as much fun as playing Blizzard games. I mean lunch costs $8-10/day ... I sure feel that playing a Blizzard game is worth more than my lunch. In fact, I think it's a super duper bargain even if Blizzard charges us $30/month to play on Bnet 2.0. The only people who complain are the losers and the pirates. Let's all support Blizzard and pay them $30/month. Blah ... blah ... blah ... dumb idiot who likes to be ripped off yapping without a head let alone a brain.
My Call Out:
Don't believe me on this (Blizzard baiting us to be financial fools and Buyers falling for it AGAIN). Wait and see. I know predicatable human nature because I've seen enough of it and I am honest about it. Blizzard will see if you fall for their act (kinda of when Blizzard said: do you want 1 gaming content or 3 times gaming content? and the fools yelled 3 times more! When in fact it was 1 content diluted into 3 pieces). And you will and you will ask for more pain like a new age fool. And you will turn the once respected Starcraft game community into an idiotic WOW dumb idiot lounge.
Note: My press release above is not to be used by Blizzard without my expressed written consent.
Blizzard does care about their fans, they wouldn't have a fansite community program otherwise, or fly in Tasteless to commentated Starcraft games, or hold up their games to the highest quality standard possible.

Just because you want to worship a corporation more than your own parents doesn't mean it makes sense to other real gamers who play games instead of collect useless collector's edition. We play games to be the best we can, not to make a corporation rich.
Think before you drink the poison foo!
Blizzard cares about money. I'd rather have a real expansion rather than have SC2 forced into 3 pieces. Broodwar was a real expansion that came later and added real depth and changes. SC2 Terran, Zerg, Protoss is really 1 game spread out with dumb single player lava joke campaigns. Real expansions are created later NOT like what they are doing with SC2 which is a fan ripoff joke that only big foos love.
