I actually checked that out from your previous post and some of those videos have been way helpful, but I don't want to pay for SC lessons :/
Maybe one of them wants to learn to play rogue so we can trade...

I've tried DoW and CnC3 and SupCommander, and Company of Heroes and even the Total War series...
none can compare to SC :O
With DoW it just bugged me so much that my first squad of low level units has to take 3 years to kill buildings, requiring higher level tech to finish off a game in a short amount of time.
CnC3 is ok, just the feel and responsiveness isnt SC, Sup Commander just sucked ass... hate it and its UI, Company of Heroes was decent, but its not economy based and its WWII.
Total War 2 was cool for the first hour mainly because I'm a History War buff, but the time-based part of the game just ugh! I even bought the expansion, but haven't and probably won't even play it.
My personal favorite RTS games outside of Starcraft include and in order: Warcraft 3, Armies of Exigo and AOE II
Oh and I loved Cossacks

Check out soulstorm, the majority of automatches can be ended in tier 1 if you are convincing enough!
Also company of heroes is definitely economy based, it's all about strangling your opponents economy in the stranglehold of strangliness!

I can't really say I see that as a bad thing. One of the stupidest things about RA2 and AoE2 was the effectiveness of low tier units. Conscript or Skirmisher rushes ended games, with little more than 5 minutes in them. Starcraft isn't quite such a culprit because, although you can do the same, it requires much more micro to succeed in doing so, and so when either side fails, unless one has a significant advantage, they'll often return to eco/tech.
But the reason I think DoW got it right by not letting T1 units dominate the game is simple: it actually means there's a good reason to have T2 and T3. There is no point in a game having higher tiers if all people are doing to win is to trade T1 units until someone comes off better (through better concaves, micro, or whatever), and then reams their opponent's economy.
Now, I'm not saying pure T1 isn't fun or isn't good gameplay in itself. Rather than, if you're going to include higher tiers of development, give players a good reason to reach them.

Opet says the truth Lipton, you should try Soulstorm expansion. Quite fast paced action.

I liked the AoE series
me and Pillars (old top Protoss player) were like top ten in AoE II for a bit
I'm not sold on AoE 3, anyways just busy to pick up another game right now...
