Blizzard can't register StarCraft: Ghost as an e-Sports brand in China
English Translation:
The Trademark review and adjudication board dismissed Blizzard’s appeal based on grounds that the name spreads “feudal superstition”. They translated StarCraft Ghost to mean “Astrology” and “Ghost”. Thus the judges of the Beijing Municipal people’s court were asked to not allow Blizzard to register the trademark.
Blizzard Entertainment developed StarCraft in 1998; which would go on to become the worlds first professional E-Sport.
The Jury considered that trademarks, apart from merchandise, should not carry anything that might have a negative impact on the culture. The Chinese direct translation; "Astrology Ghost" fit their description of a negative impact and may cause feudal superstition, unfortunately for Blizzard this is both a negative from a business aspect as well as the type of story that tips their hand to their future plans for a new IP.
I translated the above from the Chinese law site
ChineseCourt.org: Chinese Source
To fight for the name of a supposedly canceled game this hard should tell us something about Blizz's future plans (and Nova's)...
Also it was again mentioned recently by Blizzard, their intentions on continuing work on an unannounced next gen MMO. Remember Blizzard has said that they are working on 2 unannounced new games. Looks more and more like that StarCraft MMO game may be a reality after all?

firstly, the right name would be "Galaxies of Starcraft"
secondly, screw the idea of a starcraft MMO.
im not having my starcraft lore ****** up as badly as my warcraft lore.
if blizz decides to do this, even god cant help them.

However if they do pursue reviving Ghost for this purpose, I would imagine it would be a totally different game. Remember, Blizz has always said they are working on a next gen MMO not MMORPG. MMOs could be FPS, RTS or whatever genre

Wait wasn't SC:Ghost an exclusive console title? I can't imagine them releasing an MMO for only the console. What if they are just trying to make Ghost an esports game? What gives the impression that it hence to an MMO? I was under the impression from past Blizzard employee interviews that the new MMO IP will have nothing to do with Starcraft.

"Tigole is no longer a Game Designer on World of Warcraft, because he's completely moved on to Blizzard's new Next-Gen MMO project."

I think I read somewhere that the unannounced next gen mmo was suposed to be a whole new franchise, not just WoW2 or world of diablo or anything like that.Â

why make a whole new franchise when you can just recycle a game that you developed for years but never released?

This is gonna be just like the time before blizzard announced Diablo 3, they said they were gonna announce a new game. People thought it was Diablo 3, it made sense to be Diablo 3 and it was Diablo 3.
Just like now, people think it's a starcraft MMO, it would make sense if it was a starcraft MMO and it will be a starcraft MMO.
I don't see what Ghost has anything to do with it - tbh I hated the idea of blizzard making some crappy fps shooter that has zero replayability.

What information are you looking at that makes you believe this is the unannounced MMO? Starcraft: Ghost has been known for awhile, and it's an FPS, not an MMO. Even the name doesn't imply MMO. Why would you name an MMO based on a single "character class"? Ghosts are the "snipers" of Starcraft, which makes the name Starcraft: Ghost much more apt to an FPS than an MMO.
I just hope they still don't plan on making it console-only.
PS. I'm not saying that there is no plans for a Starcraft MMO (they'd be stupid not to eventually come out with one), but this is no proof of such plans, and I'd bet money this would NOT be the name of it.

I'm curious. Do you think MMO = MMORPG? Because if you do, you are awfully ignorant. Ever heard of Planetside? Yeah. Try again, and thanks for playing.

First off, you don't have to be a prick to everyone who doesn't hold the same opinion as you. It doesn't make you win an argument, it makes you look like a douche.
Secondly, I'm fully aware there are other MMO's other than RPG's, but that doesn't change the fact that they wouldn't have an MMO based around one class, whether it be an RPG or an FPS, especially with the vast array of classes one could use from the StarCraft universe.

What makes you think that a MMO 'has' to have multiple classes? It would be the 'MMORPG' that would be expected of multi-classes. 'MMOFPS' are just a bunch of people all playing a fps together online. UT2k4, as well as Team Fortress, are both MMOFPS games. So really, as long as it has online capability and is a major part of the game, Ghost could in fact be a MMO, without being a horrid RPG (WoW)

Team Fortress and UT are not MMOFPS. You're an idiot. Go away.
