The rest of this post will tell you why I chose that title and why it resonates.
First how did StarCraft get to where it is today?
It undeniably owns the title of best RTS game of all time, what are the key factors that make this statement true?
1. StarCraft’s Longevity
This game has been played for over 10 years now and still has millions around the globe playing online or single player every day.

2. StarCraft the eSport
This point could very well be the number one reason. When Korea imported over StarCraft, they were a nation that was on a verge of being one of the most connected countries in the world. The balance and gameplay of StarCraft allowed it to be accepted nationwide and thus become the epitome of Electronic Sports.
Korea is the birthplace of eSports with StarCraft as its game. Because of the Perfect Balance (point 3) and the inherent gameplay mechanics, StarCraft professional gamers are still now to this day able to create new and impressive strategies to win games.

3. The Perfect Balance
StarCraft hailed in a unique feature to the RTS genre, 3 completely different and unique races. However that wasn’t as important as the balance that came with those 3 races. A player was not put at a severe disadvantage by choosing any one race to go up against another player of similar skill using another race.

4. The Story-line
StarCraft has arguably one of the best single-player stories and campaigns in a game. The main and back stories are well done and immersive. The plot-twists and expert story telling create one of the best villains in a game. The kind of villain you love to hate, yet at the same time still feel sympathy for, Sarah Kerrigan or the Queen of Blades

5. Magic
This is a major factor in StarCraft’s success. The Magic I’m talking about isn’t Harry Potter, it isn’t Merlin or Chris Angel. StarCraft Magic is something that is unspoken most of the time. It is something you cannot touch or plan for, it is however something a lot of StarCraft veterans have had experience with at some level.
Magic is the moment when you execute one of the best moves in your life. Magic is the moment when you don’t think your actions you just do it and turn the tide of battle in an instant.
Magic is that placement of your tank in that certain sweet spot to annoy the enemy. Magic is not just an effect or an action, it is also that moment right before your foe types GG, the moment that it happens and right after are your grin goes from one ear to the next.
Magic is the essence of StarCraft, that one thing that cannot truly be fully described, but if you have played StarCraft over there years you know what I’m talking about in every detail...

How StarCraft II becomes the greatest eSport the world has ever seen.

A n t i c i p a t i o n
As of this moment, gamers from across the globe are searching for news and preparing for the greatest launch in Blizzard history.
StarCraft sold 1 million copies during its first month. I expect… no I predict 1 million copies of StarCraft II sold during the first few days of its launch.
Veterans of the game, their younger siblings, new gamers, gamers wanting to make a name for themselves in eSports, RTS gamers looking for a better game are all waiting in anticipation. The future Gamers of StarCraft II are already here and waiting.
e S p o r t s
The world of eSports is growing, leagues and major tournaments are launched every day and the cash & prizes one could win are growing as well. However this growth isn’t without its growing pains, leagues and come and gone, however what is left is smarter, flexible, better.
The WCG is still the top competition in the world when it comes to gaming and leagues in the US are starting to gain more popularity then ever.
As soon as the game is out, many leagues still start popping up all over to capture the excitement of gamers. Blizzard herself will most likely be hosting huge cash prize tournaments.
The WCG will have to adopt StarCraft II expansion as their newest competitive game, even before the many patches that will surely come.
The head coach of team eSTRO said it best himself, it does not make much sense to not support the newer version. Already now professional StarCraft gamers are getting a crack at testing StarCraft II, they are the best qualified to help Blizzard fine tune the game mechanics and balance. The original StarCraft never had this type of grueling testing, the original becoming what it is today was Magic, luck or accident as some may say.
The need for a top notch eSports game, millions of fans in waiting and gameplay balance tested by professional gamers and the community will produce be the Best RTS game off all time.
I'd like to end this with the music of StarCraft II

Brand spanking new SC2 video, Zerg vs Terran

Yeah it may be many more months before SC2 graces our widescreen monitors... but I'm planning to start a SC play group here on GameRiot, get people together on Bnet or our league once its finished. Sometime to take up our time while waiting for SC2, since imo non of the modern RTS games can do that...
I'm going to wait till a couple months before release to build a whole new rigg
Starcraft was pretty much my first PC game that I played religiously. I tried my hardest to get good at that game, competed in ladders and played tons and tons of 2v2 and 3v3's on the original Big Game Hunter maps before they were heavily modified. Nothing is more satisfying then doing a tank drop on the rocks next to the mineral with an SCV to build a turret.
I met one of my best friends through Starcraft. We played 2v2 and 3v3 together a lot on BNET, and we have remain friends for over 10 years now visiting each other at least 2-3 times each year ( He lives in MD and I live in NY). We moved onto Diablo 2, Warcraft III and then WoW eventually. I just know that when SC2 comes out, we would be all over that.
Since GuildWars and early WoW days, there hasn't been a game we've all wanted to play together on. SC2 is going to bring back a lot of friends, groups and clans.
