To your right: the most successful esport player of recent history, holding a mouse of solid gold as a testament to his cheer amazingness. His hourly pay? Less than an undergraduate student flipping burgers at mcD's.
I am talking about Lee Jae Dong, the Zerg superstar from team Hwaseung Oz. His contract with the team recently came to an end, in an attempt to improve his working conditions and salary his parents declared him free to pick up for other teams.
Allthough the Starcraft 2 beta was slated for a summer release, Blizzcon 2009 doused the last glimmer of hope there was of meeting this deadline. Not a word was spoken of the beta's release other than Mike Morhaime reassuring everyone it would “definitely be this year” on DirectTV.
Knowing Blizzard, this could be any point in time, but being optimistic I would say expect the beta to hit late December.
The beta will be running for at least several months and will be the best chance for … More
Ozzy Osborne, who has appeared in WoW commercials on TV will be appearing at BlizzCon and be performing.
Brackets for the WoW and WarCraft III tournaments are up on the BlizzCon website, however the Starcraft tournament brackets aren't final yet.
The map pools for the BlizzCon StarCraft Invitational and Warcraft III global finals have been determined, and are listed below. Each player will be able to eliminate two maps prior to each match and then select a map they wi… More
Blizzard Theme Park Contest Winners For our recent contest, we challenged artists and designers to dream up the ultimate Blizzard Entertainment theme park, complete with the wildest rides and most inventive attractions they could conceive. Big congrats go out to Christina Marie DeLong for her detailed, grand-prize-winning depiction of Blizzard World, featuring such attractions as a terran combat simulator, a Diablo-themed petting zoo, and a thrilling flight around Outland's Netherwing Ledge. This little known game game named World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King came out two weeks ago. I don't think there is much surprise when it comes to which game was the top seller that week. WotLK came out two days before this period yet still outsold it's competitors the following week.Â
Thankfully Nancy fricken Drew is finally off the charts again thanks to a few newcommers. Fallout 3 drops from it's top spot the week before all the way down to 7th. The Sims 2 sticks around like a… More
I know few of you actually care about Wrath of the Lich King. Surely most of you bought it and just left it on the shelf while playing other games of greatness. Who am I kidding, half of you reading this probably already have the game and most of the rest will get it at one point or another.
So many of you bought the game that it is set the single day PC game sales record. 2.8 million copies in one day. Do the math on that at 40 bucks a pop and you can probably guarantee that Blizzard alr… More
A little under a year ago I discussed the CGS and it's CEO's hopes of becoming the next NFL, NBA and English Premier League. Needless to say I felt it was pretty absurd to even consider the CGS making it to such levels. And while I stopped short of claiming the league's death to be a nice guy, it was obvious that was not the direction they were heading.
News this week confirms just that, the CGS league is now dead. I would love to have a good laugh at the expense of Andy Reif who said "I've… More
For the first time in about a year, it seems the World of Warcraft has fallen off of NPD's weekly PC game sales top 10. I write about these every now and have a good laugh at Nancy Drew, or the Sims and WoW never leaving the charts or new games which come out and take over the top spot (AoC, Warhammer).Â
This week things a look a bit different than usual:
Fallout 3 - Bethesda Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - EAFallout 3 Collector's Edition - Bethesda Spore / EA Maxis Far Cry 2 / Ubisoft … More
Those of you that have messed with the WotLK installer today or managed to snag a early copy of the game may have figured out that World of Warcraft accounts are now being merged into Battle.net accounts.
The news has spread around the net today and most of you planning to upgrade will have to deal with this at some point or another. If you want to play WotLK you have to accept the TOS update agreeing that you don't mind porting your WoW account over to a Battle.net account (which you shouldn't… More
You may have noticed the site has been acting up today. Slow loads, javascript errors and just hassles in general. It seems the build up and traffic from the Wrath of the Lich King is taking a toll on Gameriot's servers.
Gameriot's server... =/
I had a conversation with one of our devs today that went like this over email:
Me:Â The site is running worse than the Republican presidential campaign, what is going on? Dev:Â It seems we are experiencing some technical difficulties and there is som… More
Thanks to Draw for the heads up, part II of the World of Warcraft Retrospective from Gametrailers is up. I am not a big fan of much of their own content, reviews and such, but I eat these retrospectives up. In fact after the last one I spent some time on the WoW Wiki (scary, first time for everything) reading up on Arthas and the Lich King.
Warcraft III and DOTA are featured this week as the retrospective pushes on towards Wratch of the Lich King in both time frame and game history. I am no… More
Two press releases have floated my way in the past couple of days via Blizzard so there is no reason we can't tie them both together. Wrath of the Lich King will have a midnight launch (surprise) on November 13th. Four retailers in New York, Anaheim, Austin and San Francisco will be having special launch events to celebrate the game's release. There a bunch of international locations as well in the link above which you non-USA folk may want to check out.
It is funny how you can misquote headlines and totally screw up someone's statement in regards to another article. I was browsing through my news today and came across this headline:
LucasArts: Star Wars MMO will be bigger than WoW
I thought to myself a title like that was quite the bold statement and that it sounded nothing like the rhetoric I have heard so far from Lucasarts in regards to the KOTOR MMO, The Old Republic.
Digging further, the next headline (source) stated the following:
If Grand Theft Auto 4 and World of Warcraft weren't enough, the zombie movement is continuing on a rapid pace. Left 4 Dead is coming in a matter of weeks but Activision seemingly wants to rain on Valve's zombie parade putting a random ass zombie killing mode in Call of Duty: World at War.
Look I don't ***** when you guys make a new COD game every year but do you really have to toss zombies in at an attempt to be "cool"? Not only are these zombies but they are Nazi zombies, which is a bit weir… More
Gametrailers is back on the retrospective kick after ending their Star Wars retrospective a month or so ago. Next on the menu is Warcraft, the history of the series and how the RTS games tie in to World of Warcraft, etc. I imagine this all gearing up towards the release of Wrath of the Lich King.
I figured the Blizzard junkies and WoWheads around here would love this. For me, someone who was really never big in to any of them, it is quite interesting as well. Per usual it features some to… More
