Our friends at SCLegacy have been translating Korean Blue posts the last couple of months, here are some highlights:

In the last few months, some interesting blue posts have popped up on the Korean Battle.net forums. Here are the blue posts, translated by StarCraft: Legacy, starting from September 20th to October 29th.

9/20 – Special Abilities of the Ghost

Thank you Dong1645 for giving us your suggestions. I think it would be good to give some information on the Ghost to help with the debate.

Of course, this is from the latest build and everything is still subject to change.

Ghost’s Abilities

Nuclear Launch

Drops a nuclear missile at the selected location, but only drops a while after the ability is cast. It inflicts damage in a wide area and does additional damage to buildings.

Snipe

Causes 45 damage on a selected biological unit. It ignores armour. 25 energy cost.

EMP Shot

Absorbs the energy of all units inside the selected area, and produces an electromagnetic wave that does a set damage to shields. Also, cloaked units hit by EMP will be visible for a short time. 100 energy cost.

Cloak

Makes the unit invisible so that enemy units cannot see or attack the unit. 25 energy cost (A set energy cost every second after initial cast)

Quote: Where the hell did you hear that the StarCraft II Ghost had Lockdown?

Not everyone knows all StarCraft II info exactly. Please be more considerate to others.

You can check out a ton more Korean Blue Posts here on SCLegacy

Team Micro Arena is a Use Map Settings-based genre of Starcraft gameplay, one where you play the game differently but never the less with at a very high level of skill. Many veteran SC players will be well aware of this, since TMA has been around in one form or another for over five years. With its focus upon micro over macro management, tactics and team play it has remained a strong minority community within the larger Starcraft scene. That is, until now...

Very recently, the guys over at www.team-micro-arena.net with VeNoM5 at the forefront have taken a major step towards popularizing TMA for a larger audience. These days, you got to have video to have any chance, and so they have built a massive and growing library of TMA tutorial videos - all available on Youtube.

In my opinion, content like that is absolutely essential for a community like ours to flourish and grow. Starcraft is, I would argue, the most competitive RTS ever made - but for people who do not already know and appreciates its magic, that can be hard to see. The graphics are from the past millennium, and for that reason extra effort is required to sell the concept.

Team Micro Arena do just that, and they do it well. Their tutorials are good, informative and straight to the point - making it easy for newcomers (such as myself, I shall admit) to start playing and owning. Not only that, playing TMA will undoubtedly also make you a lot better at microing in general - climbing the ladder at iCCup just got easier.

Head over here to check out their extensive Youtube-library

Click here to check out the official website of this veteran community

Also, for a longer introduction to why TMA rocks and why their initiative is so inspirational, click here to read the original article over at polygonrevue.com

PS.

The RAZER Naga MMO gaming mouse

First off all I want to say thanks again to Razer for sending me this, it is their expansion into the competitive MMO gaming scene. The main feature that makes this an MMO mouse of course is the 12 custom buttons on the left hand side.

The box opening (note this is a special bundled box, if you purchase the Naga mouse by itself you won't get the Naga MegaSoma mouse pad that came with this)

Tech Specs:

5600dpi Razer Precision 3.5G Laser Sensor

1000Hz Ultrapolling™ / 1ms response time

200 inches per second max tracking speed

Zero-acoustic Ultraslick™ Teflon feet

17 MMO-optimized buttons (including 12 button thumb grid)

Optional MMO-specific software AddOns

Unlimited character profiles with AddOns

Approximate size: 116L x 69W x 41.6H (in mm)

First impressions
My first impression of the Naga is that it's a medium sized mouse, as far as size goes I would put the Logetich G9 and Microsoft Sidewinder in the large catagory so you guys can imagine the size.

Next I like the idea of lots of quick keys if you're playing an MMO with the need to access tons of skills, however I felt the furthest back buttons (10,11 and 12) would be the most unused.

Tested in GuildWars, WoW, Aion, Modern Warfare and StarCraft
During my little time in WoW(friends account since I don't play anymore) I found myself using the keys for simple things like opening up bag slots or other non-essential macros. I had a similar experience in Aion, I like this mouse a lot for those games.

In GuildWars which I feel is a much more competitive MMO then WoW I had a different experience, I only used the 1,2,3 and 5 keys on the grid leaving the rest unbined. In GW mouse control imho is more important then in WoW so I rarely wanted to put added side motion on the mouse if I was in the heat of battle where I tend to hold the mouse a bit tighter.

If you play GuildWars PvP you will love this mouse, 1,2,3 I used for "interupt" skills, which are abilities you use to distrupt another players while they are about to cast a spell or use an attack ability. And I used Q,E,R,F,C,1,2 for my other skills.

With Modern Warfare and Starcraft obviously I never used the side keys, but the precision on the mouse was fantastic and makes this a great mouse of FPS play. One great feature of this mouse if you're an FPS player also is that it's a finger-tip mouse as well as knuckle mouse (when you use the part of your fingers that contain the Proximal Phalanges). To be more descriptive: if you divide your finger into 3 sections, a knuckle mouse user would use the 3rd section just above the knuckle to click the mouse. The Naga like a lot of Razer mice imo 100% supports both finger play styles.

Hey it's Halloween!

With Starcraft I tend to like heavier weighted mice and I'll be sticking with my G9x for RTS play.

Over all if you are an RTS / FPS player you won't be disapointed by this mouse, but there are probably others in the Razer line-up that would suit our play style better. If you play WoW however I feel that this would be a great addition to your gear, the ability to bring up the multitude of features/bags/windows in WoW saves you tons of time so you can continue farming, griefting, raiding or PvPing.

Other features

The nice matte no slick top, shiney sides and blue lights makes this a pretty mouse as well as a good grip mouse.

The padding on the bottom of the mouse goes all the way around and isn't like your standard oval pads, so imo the Naga's pads will last a very long time and you will keep the same smooth flowing feel a thousand hours later.

The braided cord is also another plus if you are a competitive gamer and hate getting your cords tangled or stuck on the desk.

Overall this is a great mouse for MMO players and at $79.99 not a back breaking price for a high-end mouse.

Hi-Res photos

Official Razer site

Follow Razer & Starfeeder on Twitter

Last Razer product review: The StarCraft 2 Messenger Bag

As a great supporter of the work that Brent / PsyonicReaver is doing along with his comrade in arms, Kenny, over at Justin.TV/iccup, it is with great pleasure that I am presenting this interview with the man himself. By now, he should be a fairly famous man in Starcraft circles - nearly 200,000 people watched the last episode of the JSI where we saw White_Ra slay Mondragon and Haypro advance through a most ferocious Zerg. In just a couple of hours, the Round of 4 of the JSI will be streamed - and the heat as well as the hype is turned up.

In this interview, Brent speaks about the tournament he is co-hosting, what his plans and motivations behind it are and what we can expect from him and Kenny in the future. He also lets us know about what he thinks about Starcraft 2 - having played it more than most, of us along with other predictions about the Future of eSports. Without further ado, here's the voice of the man himself adorned with an image of Bisu:

<img class="resize" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2595/3843416435_5607555fc0.jpg"http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2595/3843416435_5607555fc0.jpg />

Gamasutra recently sat down with Browder to discuss the inevitable difficulties that come with updating a 10-year-old game while trying to steadfastly avoid feature creep -- and why even after more than half a decade making RTS games, he still wasn't fully prepared for a lead design role at Blizzard.

With StarCraft II, you've said you're trying to avoid making a game that is significantly more complex than StarCraft, even as many individual elements change. How do you make the call as to what stays and what goes?

DB: It's just really tough. We have to make these calls on a daily basis. There were for a long time, and there's still a little bit of it, big debates on the team as to what is enough and what is not enough. What is too much?

We just walked the line, and we look at stuff that we sort of feel is core to the experience: "This is a defining element of the Zerg. We have to have the creep. It's defining." Or, "Siege tanks are a defining element for the Terrans." Then we look at elements where we'll say, "This was fun. We love these things. The fans have obviously been using them. Vultures and spider mines are huge -- but they're not defining elements. You could live without them. I can imagine the Terran army without these things."

So it's a combination of conceptual elements and mechanics. Where we think we can do better, we'll try do better. Stuff that we feel conceptually is not necessary, we'll remove. We've always felt that solo play and Battle.net were the areas where we could really do some stuff that was crazy, that was new and really interesting. And multiplayer really needed to harken to the game's legacy, while at the same time creating enough strategies so you don't think, "Well, I've played this game for ten years, guys. What are you giving me here?"

We want to have enough that it's still fresh. I think we're walking the line pretty well right now.

Even between the single-player and the multiplayer, there have been design differences that mean there are discrepancies in terms of what units are available.

DB: Totally.

Do you worry about that being unintuitive, especially for people who are new to StarCraft?

DB: Not really. We did for a little bit, but then we looked back at our previous games and realized that our solo campaigns have never prepared anybody for an online experience at all. That never worked, right? We always sort of touted it that way -- "It's going to prepare you" -- but it never really did.

Looking back at that, we feel that never really works anyway. This lets us make a much more compelling solo play experience. It can run free and be its own gameplay experience with all kinds of units and all kinds of upgrades, which wouldn't have been possible if we'd restricted ourselves to only the multiplayer set, because the multiplayer wants to become small.

It wants to be reasonable. It wants to be enough that you can keep everything in your head -- so not only do I know what I can do next, but I know what you can do next, and I can play the game in my head a little bit before we actually engage.

You want that sense of there being a very limited number of opening moves in chess, and then a larger set of second moves, and so on.

DB: Yeah. And how many moves can I think ahead of you? That's determining whether I can win or not. So the multiplayer experience needs to be really tight, while the solo play experience doesn't have to be that tight in that sense.

But if we restricted ourselves to the multiplayer units [in single-player], we would ultimately lose a lot of gameplay. We've got a lot of tools that we're going to use -- our challenge mode, like our tutorials, like our improved score screen and improved replay screens -- all to try to help players make that transition from solo play to multiplayer so they can acquire the right skills, instead of leaning on something that never really worked with to begin with.

Check out the rest of the interview here: Gamasutra
Via StarCraft Source

---StarCraft II Q&A Batch 54 --- posted by Cydra

[SC2 Forum]
1. Does the Zergling vs. Zealot ratio remain at 4:1 or has it changed in the latest builds?

One zealot can usually take out two, and sometimes three zerglings. However, the ratio is mainly based on positioning and micro-controlling. As the number of zealots grows, it will take more zerglings to win the fight since the zealots can clump up and reduce the attacking surface area. Smart use of terrain, such as a choke or backing up against a wall, will also help a protoss
player reduce this attack area. Zerglings have to secure a good surround around the zealots to keep the ratio close.

[SC Legacy]
2. In World of Warcraft pvp they found an issue over time that it was "very unsatisfying" to the player when they lost control of their character as it limited their ability to do their job or role. There is a noticeable increase in stuns and immobilization in Starcraft 2, which was barely present in Starcraft 1. From your experience in testing, do you feel abilities, which limit unit control, provide more dynamic game play so far or are you noticing more concern?
First of all, there were actually some abilities in the original StarCraft that could cause players to lose control of units. These abilities include the ghost’s lockdown, the corsair’s disruption web, and the dark archon’s mind control. It may be premature to suggest at this point that there’s a “noticeable increase” in stuns and immobilization in StarCraft II.

To address the comparison anyway, in World of Warcraft, you control a single character, unlike RTS games where you manage multiple units and bases. The difference in the World of Warcraft is when you lose control of your character you simply have to wait it out, assuming you don’t have any control breaks. However in StarCraft, when units in your army are being controlled, you can still issue orders to the rest of your army, manage your base, build new units, etc. There are a lot of options and we happy with the diversity it brings to gameplay at this point.

3. What is the current status of the Mothership? What niche does it fill at this time, and if the unit were removed, would there be a reason to fill that niche with a different unit or would protoss still be fine?

Currently the mothership has a passive cloaking field for nearby units and buildings, wormhole transit, temporal rift, and vortex as its abilities. We are happy with the state of the mothership at this time, and would like to hear feedback from the players once beta starts.

4. What is your overall goal for the Infestor? The units have had and removed so many abilities, are you trying to focus into a support role, or disruption and harassment, or just to have a wide variety of spells so it can be a quick response unit?

It is intended to play more of the disruption/harassment role. They are meant to burrow and move up ahead of the swarm to soften up their opponent’s forces.

5. Is EMP dodgeable, or there's some sort of indication that it's going to be launched? And does this cause a problem with Immortals?

It’s possible to dodge EMP, but it is difficult to do. Your options include anticipating your opponent will be casting an EMP by seeing the ghost or its shimmer and predicting it; being near the edge of the EMP range and moving out quickly; or using the stalker’s blink ability.

[Vile Gaming]
6. Map/mod to site communication – Will there be support for map/mod makers to bridge a connection between their map/mod to their site? For example, if a person wanted their map/mod to submit scores/results to the site, and vice-versa the map/mod could pull the highest scores from the site and display it in the game.

It is possible for players to make their own custom score screens but there are no specific plans to bridge map data to web sites via Battle.net.

7. Launcher support – Will maps/mods be able to have their own "launcher" (ala WoW’s launcher), as in shortcut or start icon from the computer outside of StarCraft, and have their own screens, after a Battle.net authenticating screen (ala Twitter’s, or Facebook’s, application authentication).

There are no plans to allow maps and mods to have their own launcher. However, making a loading screen or launch screen is still possible.

He and his comrade in arms are taking the foreign world of Starcraft with a storm, and I recently had the pleasure of speaking to Kenny - co-host together with Psyonic Reaver of the eSports show over at Justin.tv/iccup - about the Game, the Future and the extremely popular SC tournament they are currently hosting.

At the time of writing this, the 2nd round of this tournament is going down in a couple of hours. All the big names are there: Artosis, Idra, INcontrol, White_Ra, Draco, ret and many more - and there's money on the line. At least $1,250 are in the prize pool - all donated by Justin.tv themselves to support the project, and that sum is likely to rise from further company donations. Yes, it's promising indeed.

Head over to Justin.tv/iccup for exact details about when to watch the next games live, but first - listen to the man himself:
